He hosted the show from 2004 to 2017, and became famous for his witty and charismatic style. He also became the first African to host the syndicated version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2010. MTN sponsored the show from 2004 to 2017, and provided the phone lines for the Phone a Friend lifeline. MTN also gave away prizes and gifts to the viewers who participated in the SMS competitions. What were the rules and lifelines?

The rules of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Nigeria were similar to the original British format. The contestants had to answer 15 multiple-choice questions correctly in order to win the top prize of 20 million. The questions increased in difficulty and value as the game progressed. The contestants could walk away with the money they had won at any point, or risk losing it if they answered incorrectly.

The contestants also had three lifelines to help them with the questions. They were:

  • 50:50: This lifeline eliminated two of the four wrong answers, leaving one correct answer and one wrong answer.

  • Phone a Friend: This lifeline allowed the contestant to call one of their friends for 30 seconds and ask for their opinion on the question.

  • Ask the Host: This lifeline was introduced in 2022, replacing Ask the Audience. It allowed the contestant to ask the host, Frank Edoho, for his opinion on the question. The host could either give his honest answer, or admit that he did not know.
